City Commission approves of Ring the Bell Day on December 24, encourages local participation

Commission Chair Matt Foster said that the City of Cedartown would not be outdone by their counterparts in Rockmart, and he meant it.

Joining in the campaign to bring some holiday spirit to Polk County put forth by Jannah Sorrell, the Cedartown City Commission passed their proclamation making December 24 “Ring the Bell Day” in Cedartown.

Donning holiday hats, Foster joined Sorrell for a quick photo after she presented the same idea to the City Commission on Monday night that she had previously before the Rockmart City Council.

Everyone is invited to participate by grabbing a bell at 6 p.m. on December 24, going out on their front steps or porch, and ringing along with neighbors in the community for a solid two minutes.

Sorrell also encourages everyone to sing Christmas carols as well, both as a way to promote some holiday cheer during a downer of a year, and to help Santa Claus guide his sleigh on his nightly ride around the world.

Commissioners applauded the idea and voted unanimously for the proclamation, and they even pledged that they would be out ringing their bells as well.

For those who want to participate, make sure to share this and other posts about the bell-ringing effort to social media with #RingTheBellPolk to show support and help others find out about the Dec. 24 event.

Here’s some previous coverage of the effort.
