The new Fine Arts building going up at the Rockmart High School campus has a cleared area and the footings for the facility that will bring a theater and other facilities to RHS in the coming years isn’t the only work underway as the school year is about to start for 2023-24.

Construction projects have included the paving of a previously gravel portion of the parking lot, some modular units are set to return to the campus and additional grading work has been underway on campus this summer.

Workers were out over the weekend continuing to make progress at the RHS campus’ new Fine Arts building, which officials broke ground on back in early May. It’s anticipated to be ready for the the 2024-25 school year based on previous construction timetables by R.K. Redding Construction.

An area of campus is also being made ready for modular units. Orange construction fencing is up to prepare the site for the modular classrooms set to be added to the Rockmart High campus, which were approved back in June for purchase. Furniture was secured back in May via bids, but those classrooms weren’t yet delivered.

The 8 classroom modular unit – just like the others put in thus far – is expected to be ready in the coming months. The district is currently in the process of getting utilities and the site ready for the delivery of the unit according to PSD Executive Director of Operations Todd Tillery.

It remains on order and delivery is expected before the holiday break for the modular unit priced at $740,000. The district has ordered multiple units to help with increasing student population and decreasing space to hold classes.

The parking area around the high school that was once gravel was also paved ahead of the start of the 2023-24 academic year, and some grading work was completed around the ditch along the RHS baseball perimeter heading back toward Knox Mountain Road.

Please avoid parking on the fresh dirt when it comes time for the home opener of the 2023 football season on Friday, August 25.

Rockmart High’s kitchen also got a new dishwasher, and improvements are set to come in the near future for the RHS Softball locker room.

The Jackets school year begins on Tuesday morning, August 1 with the first bell at 7:35 a.m.
