The Polk County Commission remains online for their business meetings for October, gathering on Zoom late this afternoon at 5:15 p.m. for their work session, and at 7 p.m. on Tuesday for their regular session.
Up on the agenda for the work session is a public hearing over a zoning application, a public hearing over a alcohol license application, and delegates asking to discuss several items, and updates to commissioners on projects like the new 911 Radio Communication system, and a department report from Public Works, among others.
Both Public Hearings will be held before other items are discussed. First on the list is a request from Katherine Hayes Grue seeking to build a barn on her Parrish Road property, and the second following that is a request for a retail alcohol license application for Lisa Spears at Burtons Kwik Stop at 4584 Rome Highway in Aragon.
Among those is Jeff Hawkins seeking time before the Commission to talk about the Ag Center proposal, and Barry Colbough asking for time to discuss the Confederate monument on the courthouse grounds.
Previously, the Commission made no mention of any plans to move the monument after a request previously made to the Commission to have it moved.
There are also committee reports, including the proposed project to scan court records to promote social distancing at the courthouse and to protect the records as well.
Additionally, the Public Works committee has reports on a request to post a speed limit of 25 mph on Edge Road, and a building inspector request to waive zoning fees.
On Tuesday evening, the Commission gathers again online to consider several items, including the zoning request from Grue for the construction of a barn, the retail package license, the request to pay for the court document scanning project, the Edge Road speed limit, and waiving zoning fees.
Their agenda also includes requests to renew the county’s Medicare Advantage Plan with Humana, a grant application for the Board of Elections, a project change order needed for the 911 radio system, an update from County Manager Matt Denton on finances, and board and committee appointments, along with consideration of who will take over as the Human Resources Director after Commissioners provide their comments and hold an executive session before announcing the new Human Resources Director appointment.
