County Commission selects Floyd, Thaxton to serve in leadership roles through 2020

Only two names were put forth for a pair of positions to serve through the end of 2020 in leadership for the Polk County Commission. Hal Floyd will continue on as the chair of the board, and Chuck Thaxton will be the vice chair after both were unanimously approved by fellow commissioners to head up the board through year’s end.

Floyd, who was serving as the acting chair after the departure of former Commissioner Jennifer Hulsey to run for the state house, continues in his position after he was the only nominee put forth during the May 5 meeting.

Vice Chair Chuck Thaxton was approved for the new leadership role after his name was the lone nominee for the meeting. He was also approved unanimously for the position.

Floyd and Thaxton both offered thanks to the rest of the board for putting faith in them to serve in the positions.

“I am honored, and I appreciate everyone’s confidence in me. I look forward to continue working with everyone,” Floyd said.

The votes came at the beginning of the county’s latest virtual meeting held via Zoom amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Tuesday’s meeting also marked a new beginning for one commissioner. After being sworn in on May 4, Linda Liles took part in her first meeting where she was able to cast votes on items of importance. She offered her thanks and hopes for continued positive success for the county moving ahead.
