With the month starting on a Wednesday, the schedule of the Polk County Board of Commissioners meetings got pushed back to follow Independence Day, but they have plenty of work to complete after returning from a short holiday off for the weekend.
The board gathers for their work session on Monday night kick off the week, with several items on the agenda up for discussion. Among those is four delegations, including Brandon Ellis introducing the junior cattleman’s association, Polk County Police Chief Kenny Dodd seeking time to talk about school speed zones, and Sheriff Johnny Moats and Clerk of Superior Court Stacie Baines coming to talk about FY 2021 budget items.
Commissioners will also have bids to discuss from Public Works needs – three different vehicles and a motor to repair a truck already in the fleet – along with a ordinance review committee request on child daycare fencing requirements and reports from the finance, personnel and public works committees.
The board has asked Pastor Barry Snapp to deliver the invocation for the work session on Monday evening.
Commissioners gather for their Tuesday evening session at 7 p.m. to vote on a new appointment to the Highland Rivers Health board from Polk County, the requests from Public Works going through the bid committees, a lease renewal on the Department of Veterans Services building to consider, a memorandum of agreement with the Northwest Georgia Regional Commission and a request to consider a change order on the work being completed on Polk County Courthouse No. 2 in recent weeks, not to exceed $28,300 with Place Services Inc.
County employees who were not immediately required for public safety reasons to work had Friday off to observe July 4.
