The Polk County Commission’s upcoming work session is being held again on Zoom this evening, and they’ll follow that up online on Tuesday for the regular session covering the month of September.
Members of the public are welcome to join the meeting at 5:15 p.m. on Zoom for a work session that promises to take some time with public hearings, and a delegation set to speak plus additional committee reports to cover before the commission can wrap up the day.
First on the agenda is a public hearing being sought for a special land use permit being sought by Edward Andrew Benefield to place a 200-foot monopole with a 10-foot lightning rod at 2714 Collard Valley Road in Cedartown. The project being put together by Tower Engineering will allow for a 10-minute public hearing on the issue with those for or against the measure being afforded the opportunity to speak.
An additional public hearing is being held this afternoon as well for a retail alcohol license being sought by Dinesh Shahi for wine and malt beverages for Antioch Food Mart at 3867 Antioch Road. The agenda reports that the police department has reviewed the application.
Commissioners will also hear tonight from Brittany Harris, who wants to discuss the Confederate monument between the two courthouses in Cedartown.
Among the work session’s other business is a presentation being held by Commissioner Linda Liles to first responders, plus reports from the chairs of the finance committee, the bid committee and the personnel committee. The Bid committee will specifically be discussing the quoted costs for janitorial services, and the other two are covering their general business from the past week’s meetings.
Commissioners will reconvene on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. online to consider the special use permit for a monopole tower, the alcohol beverage permit, and of importance: adoption of the FY 2021 budget.
The commission voted previously to extend the numbers for the FY 2020 budget until this year’s budget could be approved, which required a decision on where to set the millage rate to determine the amount of revenue the county will receive in property taxes for the upcoming fiscal year.
Additionally, there’s a request for a roadway name correction in the Rolling Hills Estates subdivision in Rockmart, the bid committee’s recommendation on janitorial services for county buildings, an amendment for the P-25 radio system with Cherokee County, Alabama, a request to reschedule the November meeting to accommodate the upcoming election, and a new task order with Oasis Consulting for the old Highway 278 landfill.
The commission also is being sought to approve a voting delegate for the 2020 ACCG policy agenda decisions, a resolution seeking a zoning change for farm wineries, another GDOT supplemental agreement for the runway project, a request for out of state training for a county police officer, an ordinance amendment on out of state training, and reports from County Manager Matt Denton on the finances and an opportunity for commissioner comments before going into an executive session over potential litigation and personnel.
They’ll adjourn the session following that.
