New construction is going to start soon in Cedartown on a new Dollar General location in Cedartown, but this one will replace a store currently in place.
Dollar General came before the City of Cedartown’s Planning and Zoning board in recent weeks to seek permission to build on the lot directly across from the Grayfield Apartments at the intersection of West Avenue and Ledbetter Street. (The physical address is 425 Ledbetter Street, Cedartown.)

City Manager Edward Guzman reported that officials from Dollar General told the Planning and Zoning Board that their plans were to build the new location on West Avenue and shutter the location on South College Street.
No timetable for when work will begin and later for the South College Street location to shutter wasn’t available at the moment, but expect it to be 2024 before the project is completed.
Here’s a look at the layout submitted to the city for the new Dollar General plan:

The store will be situated so that parking and entry and exit points come off of Ledbetter and Adamson Streets, with the front entrance facing Adamson and parking toward the back of the property, with the store located closer to West Avenue.
The project won’t be able to move forward until they get permission from the Cedartown City Commission. A zoning change has been requested with the new plans, which was approved by the Planning and Zoning board.
The Cedartown City Commission will hear the request during their next regular session on August 14.
Dollar General’s plans mark the second project announced by the company in recent months.
After rebuilding a store in Rockmart, they’re getting close to completion on a new location at the intersection of Highway 278 and Road across from Peach State Ford, and will be starting new construction on a location on Piedmont Highway at Cornelius Road as well.
The total number of Dollar General locations in Polk County won’t increase with the location change since the South College Street store will be closing after the new location is completed.
The former owners in Red Top Taxi purchased the Ledbetter Street property for $95,000 just over two years ago. The property had previously sold in 2008 for 10 times that value at $950,000, according to tax records. A sale hasn’t been reported yet to Dollar General.
A small warehouse does still sit on the fenced-in site, which will have to come down to make way for the store.
