The first day of early voting in Polk County ended just shy of 150 ballots cast, with a handful of absentee ballots requested as well as the polls opened for the March 18 Special Election on Monday.
Polk County came out with 141 early votes to end the opening day on February 24, with 93 of those coming from Cedartown and another 48 from Rockmart.
Two items are up on the ballot for a spring election: a Tax Allocation District (or TAD) for the City of Cedartown in areas around the Highway 27 bypass commercial district at North Main Street and Davis Road, and around the downtown area. Residents within the city limits will get to decide whether they want a portion of sales tax collection from these districts to be used toward improvements in infrastructure.
The other is a Bond Resolution request from the Polk School District seeking to add a mill of property tax to pay for a $34 million bond resolution to pay for a variety of school expansion-related projects, to be paid back over a span of 20 years via the special millage rate tack-on. It is the only countywide question on the ballot.
Aragon residents were set to vote on a new council member come March 18, but only one individual signed up to get on the ballot and thus no need for a vote was needed.
Tuesday results weren’t ready as of the time of writing on the Board of Elections website.
Check back for more voting tallies on Wednesday.
