Early voting totals for Senate, PSC run-off increase ahead of Christmas, hours extended as Rockmart precinct opens Monday

The Polk County Board of Elections has seen thousands of voters come back to the polls to take part in the January 5 statewide run-off for the pair of U.S. Senate seats, along with the Public Service Commission race. More are expected this week as they head to the polls in both Cedartown and Rockmart for the final four days of Early Voting heading into the New Year.

Elections Coordinator Brande Coggins reported that 3,893 voters have come out to participate in the January 5 vote to determine whether the Senate will remain under Republican control, or whether it will flip Democratic with challengers Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock seeking to unseat Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler.

Additionally, 1,583 absentee ballots have been returned in the run-off in Polk.

Voters this week will be able to get to the polls in both Cedartown and Rockmart thanks to the Board of Elections getting some help from the Polk County Commission late in the year to stay open in both locations Monday through Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Early voting concludes this week with machines open at the Board of Elections office in Cedartown at 144 West Ave., or in Rockmart at the Nathan Dean Community Center at 605 Goodyear Ave.

December 31 will conclude early voting for the Senate run-off before the holiday for the County on Friday, and the January 5 election following the start of the New Year.

All seven precincts will be open on Election Day for the run-off from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Those who need to check the status of their registration, request an absentee ballot or where to head to the polls on January 5 can visit the My Voter Page on the Secretary of State’s website.

Those who want to Early Vote will need their state issued photo ID to participate, and be sure their registration status is up to date.
