The turnout wasn’t expected to be large for the 2020 County Commission District 2 Run-off considering the number of people who came out to vote for the General Election this year, and the three-day limitation on early voting for the race to fill the rest of the term in a seat currently held by Linda Liles meant not a lot of people got out before the holiday to cast a ballot.
Polk County Board of Elections’ Brande Coggins, who serves as the Election Coordinator for the county, said that only 275 people came out to early vote in the run-off race between Liles and Ricky Clark, who previously served on the county commission years back.
However with a December 1 Election Day ahead, more people countywide will be given the chance to come back out and take part in the election.
Polls open for the run-off at 7 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m. for the vote on this lone item on the local ballot for the Dec. 1 vote, with the next round for the U.S. Senate races still to come in early January. Additional information about when early voting will begin in that race is expected later this week after ballots are counted in this race.
Voters can head to one of seven polling locations (see below) to take part in the 2020 run-off. It’ll determine whether Liles continues to serve as County Commissioner after she was appointed back in April to replace former Commissioner Jennifer Hulsey, who resigned from her seat to run for the State House. Liles faces a challenge from Clark, who has previously run to regain his seat several times in primary elections.
