The numbers are adding up correctly and there have been no issues thus far with the Polk County Board of Elections’ results that were reported on November 3 amid a statewide recount of all the ballots cast in the 2020 Election.
Polk County Board of Elections’ Elections Coordinator Brande Coggins reports no issues with the hand counting as of Monday morning after the work to ensure the results of the November 3 vote are correct.
She said the process is expected to wrap up sometime on Tuesday, which will up the process of hand counting the 17,423 ballots cast in the 2020 Election in November. Counties have until midweek to wrap up the process of hand-counting nearly 5 million ballots cast statewide in the November 3 election after Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger ordered the count to be completed before certifying the results.
Locally, there’s no change in the outcome of President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence winning the presidency for a second term in Polk County. Statewide, former Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harria were projected to win Georgia – the first Democrat to do so since President Bill Clinton won the state in 1992.
Georgia, Pennsylvania, Arizona and Nevada were four of the last states to have races called well after the traditional projections provided on Election Nights in years past. The excess of Absentee ballots for early voting this year slowed down the process.
After the Board of Elections locally begins to wrap up the process of getting the ballots recounted from two weeks ago, they’ll be able to move onto the business of getting ready for the December 1 run-off vote between Commissioner Linda Liles and Ricky Clark, who formerly served in the position.
They’ve also got work to do before a January 5 run-off for both U.S. Senate seats after close races between Senator David Perdue and Jon Ossoff didn’t produce a winner with 50% + 1 vote, nor did the crowded special election to determine whether Senator Kelly Loeffler returns to serve out the rest of former Senator Johnny Isakson’s term, or if the Rev. Raphael Warnock will take over.
Additional details about how to request absentee ballots for those races will be forthcoming shortly, Coggins said.
