The Polk County Board of Elections remains busy through the end of the early voting period, which is set to wrap up on Friday for the combined June 9 primaries next Tuesday.
So far, some 1,778 voters have come to the polls ahead of Primary Day to cast a ballot in the local, state and Presidential preference ballots that were delayed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. Combined with where the vote stood in March before it was shut down to the pandemic, that brings a total of 2,758 people who have voted in-person so far.
Residents who are registered to vote have until 7 p.m. tonight at both locations in Cedartown and Rockmart to cast a ballot, and then until tomorrow afternoon once precincts re-open to get in before June 9.
Absentee ballots are also coming back in large numbers as well. Some 5,411 people have requested a mail-in ballot locally, with 3,273 of those having already been sent back into the Board of Elections for processing.
That could start as early as 5 p.m. on Primary Day with local elections officials already preparing for a busy day of voters for next Tuesday.
For those who want to get in a vote early, the Board of Elections office in Cedartown at 144 West Ave. is open until 7 p.m. So is the Nathan Dean Community Center in Rockmart, located at 605 Goodyear Ave.
Rockmart’s precinct will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, June 5. The Cedartown precinct will close at 5 p.m.
