Construction is still ongoing as workers continue to finish up the front facade of the Lankford Corner on the Silver Comet Trail on South Main Street in Cedartown, set to become a landmark in the middle of town as its unique design takes shape.
The project – nearly a decade in the making – is well past the halfway point but there’s still plenty left to complete before they can open for all kinds of events.
City Manager Edward Guzman reported that the project is progressing well, but some pauses in work have pushed back the timetable some.
“Work at Lankford Corner is progressing well,” Guzman said. “We’ve experienced a couple of minor delays due to the weather, but we are still anticipating the building to be ready by late April or early May.”

Lankford Corner has gone through several iterations of work and pauses after the city received the land as a donation from the Lankford family to build the space. Pricing for the project prevented the city initially from completing the work, but were able to come up with funding for the project in part thanks to grants.
Ground broke last year, but utility and site preparation work took some months to complete before construction of the building’s exterior and unique roof saw cranes brought into the site.
Now workers are putting the finishing touches on the front facade before moving onto installing windows, interior work, before finishing up street and landscaping over the course of the rest of the spring months.
