Local firefighters on Monday made a trip across the border to provide some much needed items to a brother department in Alabama.
Polk County Fire-Rescue traveled to the Borden Springs Volunteer Fire Department in Cleburne County, bringing along a load of equipment used by firefighters when they are attacking blazes in homes around the area – including here in remote parts of Polk that need assistance.
Fire Chief Mike Hanuscin, Station 8 Captain Austin Temple, and Polk Fire-Rescue firefighters brought with them Scott 2216 psi Air Paks, air cylinders and several sizes of SCBA masks to present to Fire Chief Jimmy Headrick.
The donation provides lighter equipment to Borden Springs volunteers, reducing the amount of fatigue they undergo while in turnout gear and battling a fire.
“Polk County Fire-Rescue’s ability to make this donation would not have been possible without the assistance granted to us last year by the City of South Fulton as we upgraded our own SCBAs to 4500 psi,” the county noted in a release.
Polk County Fire-Rescue and Borden Springs Volunteer Fire Department have a mutual aid agreement to provide service to Esom Hill residents, including the use of a 3,000 gallon water tender to reach areas without an ample supply due to the distance between hydrants.
