Racers were out early on College Street in Cedartown near Peek Park to kick off the annual spring fling in Polk County, and it wasn’t even close for one local fast-footed individual.

Dalton Benefield took the top overall spot in this year’s Cedar Valley Arts Festival 5K held this morning, taking the top spot with a time of 16:34. He beat out second-place finisher Daniel Sun by nearly two minutes ahead (18:14) and third place winner Alex Dean (18:17.)

The women’s top finisher in the race was Haley Wesley, who finished the race with a time of 22:53.

Saturday morning’s race also featured a 10K. The top runner in that event was Victor Calhoun, who finished with a time of 41:57.

96 racers took part in Saturday morning’s kickoff for the Cedar Valley Arts Festival.
