GALLERY: A bit of everything for the Bulldog fans via UGA collection

Georgia fans who didn’t stop into the library last week really missed out on a unique opportunity, but you might still have a chance to catch up with a tour of athletic history at the University of Georgia in the coming weeks.

The Cedartown Public Library last week on May 20 hosted a special collection of sports memorabilia from the past accomplishments made by student athletes from the University of Georgia. It was the first stop on a statewide tour of libraries over the coming months.

Georgia fans from around the area got the opportunity to experience some of the Bulldogs’ past – everything from the for Uga collar to the pair of cleats worn by Cedartown’s own Nick Chubb during the historic defeat over Oklahoma in the Rose Bowl on their way to a National Championship showdown with Alabama (which they unfortunately fell short on winning in January 2018.)

Check out the slideshow below for some photos of the items on display:

There were championship rings for other sports from over the years, along with copies of the most recent back-to-back championships from the 2021 and 2022 seasons, original cartoons from way in the past when they began facing off against rival Georgia Tech, Hershel Walker’s helmet, and even a jersey worn by Katrina McClain when she represented Team USA in the Olympics.

The tour continues around the state through the summer and closes at the beginning of August, just in time for the items to go back into the collection in Athens for fans to visit when stopping by the campus.

The tour will be coming back toward the region when they stop in Johns Creek in the metro area at the Ocee Library on June 12, and then to Pickens County Library in Jasper on June 14.
