The Class of 2020 finally has a date set for when they’ll get to celebrate commencement ceremonies in the Polk School District.
In a release from the district today, dates were announced for June 26, 2020 at 8 p.m. for the Rockmart High School Class of 2020 to hold their graduation, and Cedartown High School will follow at 9 a.m. on June 27, 2020.
“There is no replacement for the pomp and circumstance that accompanies
graduation ceremonies. This time is special for each student and creates a lasting memory. After careful consideration, Polk School District has created a plan that offers the best solution to provide students with a traditional ceremony,” the statement said.
The goal is to host graduation but also keep to rules that require people to keep apart.
“Whereas there will be restrictions that must be followed, the plan will consist of a live ceremony for the graduates and family members. The District requests the community (to) respect the social distancing constraints that have been approved for Polk School District to move forward with a traditional graduation ceremony,” the statement said.
Here’s how those rules are going to work, directly from the statement:
• Students will receive four tickets for family members to attend the ceremony.
• Families must sit together in designated seating areas. There will be no co-
mingling outside of families.
• Masks are highly encouraged.
• Students will be seated on the field at a proper distance to maintain social
distancing protocols.
• The ceremonies will include the traditional student speeches, diploma
distribution, conferring of diplomas and the turning of the tassel.
• When ceremonies conclude, students will file out of stadium to celebrate
with families at home.
• No one will be allowed to go onto the fields to celebrate with graduates.
To accommodate those family members who want to experience graduation but won’t be able to be in the stands, the district will be setting up a live stream of both ceremonies on the Polk School District Facebook page.
