Groundbreaking ceremony held this morning for Rock Market Beverage

Rockmart’s newest liquor store set to open in August

Local officials, contractors and the future owner of the new Rock Market Beverage grabbed shovels on Thursday morning and let the dirt fly as work finally gets underway on Rockmart’s first liquor store.

The store will be located behind Captain D’s and Mary Miller State Farm Insurance (along with other businesses) on Chattahoochee Drive.

Mayor Sherman Ross was joined by city officials along with future owner Clint Brock and his family, plus business leaders from the Chamber of Commerce, the Development Authority, Century Bank and contractors for a ceremony to ring in the start of work on the forthcoming facility.

Brock said that he’s building a 7,000+ square foot facility that will have an industrial-style feel with concrete paved floors and an outer feature that looks like a futuristic wine rack among the architectural choices being made on the building. Not far away down the road, Brock is also owner of Raceway at the corner of Highway 278 and Highway 113.

The store is expected to be completed by summer and open for customers, weather permitting for the construction timetable.

“It’s been a long time coming and we are excited to get this thing started,” Brock said. “Hopefully we open in August. That’s our plan right now.”

He was thankful not only to those who have been involved on the business side of the new liquor store opening in Rockmart, but also for the city in helping to bring the project to fruition.

Brock was one of two local business owners last year to win a lottery for two liquor store licenses. He and Grant Atkins will both be locating close to one another along the Nathan Dean Parkway corridor, but not directly accessible on the four lane going through town.

Atkins plans to locate within the auto parts store off of Highway 101 near the intersection with Highway 278.

Voters overturned decades of precedent within the City of Rockmart in 2021 by allowing package liquor sales to go forward on the eastern side of the county.
