Stormy weather might have been the cause for a house fire on Hughes Road that a woman was about to move into, according to Polk County Public Safety Director Randy Lacey.
Lacey reported that firefighters from the Polk County Volunteer Fire Department arrived around 6:30 p.m. on Monday evening to 80 Hughes Road, near Friendly Baptist Church just outside of Cedartown, and found the house already fully engulfed in flames and fire having already burned through the roof.
He said the house was a total loss. An investigation is underway on the cause, but he said it was likely that lightning hit the house and started the fire.
Lacey said a new resident was about to move into the house and had items already within, but no one was injured.
