Rhonda Bitner takes home first place prize in Duck Race

A great crowd showed up to take part in the first-ever Silver Comet Fest in downtown Rockmart on Saturday and stuck around to watch the rubber ducks make their way down the Euharlee to help support the Rotary Club of Polk County and the Rockmart Merchants Association.
Ballet Garden, Isaac Streetman, and Them Mixon Boys performed during the event, and the inaugural festival was capped off by the Duck Race before closing out for the day a few hours later at 6 p.m. The race saw Rhonda Bitner taking the $1,000 first-place prize. She’s a longtime supporter of the Duck Race.
Second place was won by Justin Alder, who took home $500 and Terri Morrow took home $250 for the third place duck. The last duck in prize went to James Taylor, who earned $100 in the contest.

The festival also included the inaugural Home for the Holidays 5K, with Cedartown High junior Dalton Benefield taking the top spot and setting a course record to beat of 17:24.
Organizers are already planning to bring the festival back in November 2022 on the Saturday following Thanksgiving, including the new 5K race.
