Jimmy Brian Blackmon booked into Polk County Jail, facing murder and additional charges

The first steps in the State of Georgia vs. Jimmy Brian Blackmon took place this afternoon when he was officially booked on a murder and two other charges when he was brought back to the Polk County Jail this afternoon.

Blackmon, 50, was officially charged with murder (murder, malice murder, felony murder and murder in the second degree are listed as one charge) along with felonies for possession of a firearm or knife during commission of or attempt to commit certain felonies, and cruelty to children in the third degree.

His bond has not yet been set.

Blackmon is accused in the October 18 shooting death of his wife, Ginger Leanne Green Blackmon, 36. He fled from their home at 118 Rice Road, Rockmart and was finally arrested earlier today by the U.S. Marshals Service with the help of the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, who flew a drone with an infrared camera overhead to find him on his father’s property on Horsely Mill Road.

A firearm was found in the area where Blackmon had setup a campsite in the woods, but it was not on his person at the time of the arrest according to Chief Kenny Dodd in today’s previous reporting. Dodd added that the area around Horsely Mill Road where Blackmon was located – after police were able to track his cell phone, which he had turned back on this morning – is rural and outside of Carrollton.

Blackmon will have to go before a Superior Court Judge to have bond determined on the felony charges.

Also of note, it was previously reported that Blackmon was 5-foot-8 and 190 pounds, but the Sheriffs Office now lists him as 5-foot-7 and 151 pounds.

Check back for additional updates as the story continues to develop.
