Wet weather didn’t deter a celebration of the new federal holiday Juneteeth happening now at Turner Street Park in Cedartown.
The event being held for all in the county to come enjoy includes local vendors, an opportunity for getting something to eat, and to enjoy the company of folks in the community.
Included in the festivities today is Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Turner Street Park is located just down the street the intersection of East Avenue and Turner Street in Cedartown.
Juneteeth is a new federal holiday just signed into law by President Joe Biden and commemorates the emancipation of slaves in the United States, and originated in Galveston, Texas when federal troops arrived on June 19, 1865 to carry out emancipation orders in Texas.
The holiday has been celebrated since 1866 in various parts of the country.
