The Cedartown Lady Bulldogs took away their first win of the season, but it came after a long fight with the Cartersville Lady Purple Hurricanes.
After 11 innings battling back and forth, the Lady Bulldogs came up with a 7-5 win over Cartersville after the two teams battled it out to open the season on Tuesday.
Cartersville took an early 2-run lead in the bottom half of the first inning, but Cedartown came back with a three-run third, and added two more in the sixth after the Lady Hurricanes took a three-run lead in the fifth.
Cedartown junior Marycille Brumby put up a homer on the day that brought in a pair of runs out of her three at-bats, getting walked her other times at-bat on the day. Senior Roslyn Blankenship and junior Kaylee Nikolopoulus both also had a stellar day at-bat. Blankenship put up a hit and a walk, scoring twice in her five at-bats on the day. Nikolopoulus put up two-run, two-hit plate appearances and got a walk as well in her four times up to the plate on the day.
Senior Carlie Holland and sophomore Taylor Westmoreland also helped out the Lady Bulldogs with the win. Holland went up to the plate six times and came away with two hits and a run on the day. Westmoreland grabbed a hit, an RBI and a walk on the afternoon and scored a run.
Sophomore winning pitcher Reagan Clarke ended her 11 innings on the mound giving up three hits, five runs, six walks but put up eight strikeouts on the afternoon.
Cedartown hosts Rockmart for the next game on the schedule, slated for Friday afternoon.
