Land cleared for new Dollar General in Cedartown

Replacement store for South College Street location still needs building permit

The lot the new Dollar General will be going on once was overgrown and had some structures left unused for many years facing West Avenue.

Now the land is cleared and the past has been bulldozed away for the replacement store, with a construction timetable “to be determined.”

City Manager Edward Guzman confirmed that developers for the replacement store for the South College Street Dollar General still needs a building permit to continue onward with work, but for now they have their land disturbance permit and were allowed to take down the previous structures and clear the overgrown lot of any debris to stage for future work.

The Cedartown City Commission last summer approved a zoning change last summer for the location across from Grayfield Apartments at West Avenue and Ledbetter Streets to become the latest Dollar General store in the area.

Once work is done, the plan is to shut down the South College Street location.

Another Dollar General is already underway on Piedmont Highway at Cornelius Road heading toward Esom Hill and the Alabama state line.

Locations in Cedartown currently also include a Dollar General Market on North Main Street, and two stores – one at Lindsey Chapel Road and Highway 278, and one near the bypass on Highway 27 South.
