K-9 officers are used to sniffing out trouble and running down suspects who don’t want to be caught, but on Thursday they had another important job at Cedartown Middle School.
Pups and their handlers – along with Sheriff Johnny Moats and others – went to the school during Red Ribbon Week to talk to youth about the importance of being drug-free, but also about how K-9 officers help serve and protect the community along with their two-legged brethren.
Thursday’s event saw police dogs Thor, Nero, Remi and Bono come out to the school to demonstrate how they work in the field, and even how they bring down suspects who don’t want to be caught.
The Rockmart Police Department looks to add a fifth K-9 officer to the county’s contingent of four-legged officers in the field. Check back for more details about their new pup as they become available.

Thank you to the Polk County Police Department, the Polk County Sheriff’s Department, The Polk County Drug Task Force, Cedartown City Police Department and Rockmart City Police Department for coming and doing a wonderful Red Ribbon Week Assembly for our students! Our favorite officers were Thor, Nero, Remi, and Bono, the K9s!
