Dexter Gonzales honored as King at Homecoming Dance

Rockmart High School has crowned a new queen after rolling out the red carpet for A Hollywood Homecoming on Friday night.

Senior Maddie Owens was crowned as the 2022 Homecoming Queen during a ceremony at halftime of the Haralson County-Rockmart game, and Jakiryah Tolbert was named the runner-up on the court.

Owens, the daughter of Heather and Carl Owens, shared her appreciation for being named this year’s queen.

“I’m so thankful for the wonderful community that I live in, and I’m so thankful for RHS,” she said.

During the presentation ceremony, Owens in her bio noted that her aunt Holly Sargent has been an inspiration in her life, finding the bright side of any situation. She’s a 2022 Weightlifting champ for the state, and

2021 Homecoming Queen Takiyah Cummings was on hand alongside Principal Bo Adams to crown Owens as this year’s queen.

The fun didn’t stop there for the weekend.

During Saturday’s Homecoming dance, RHS announced this year’s King as Dexter Gonzales and he was crowned during a ceremony. Ty’Shawn Johnson was named the runner-up for this year’s court.

The RHS Facebook page posted a video from Saturday’s dance with the ceremony from this year’s King crowning.

This year’s senior court for the Homecoming Queen title included Owen and Tolbert, along with Ava Shae Culver, Gracey Arnold, Elyse Goss, and Shaelyn Wise.

The King’s court included Gonzales, Johnson, Bryson Marcos, Cam Ferguson, Noah Floyd, and Montreas Simmons.

Junior court members included Zori Williams and Lauryn Clark, as well as Braylon James and Connor Matthews. The sophomore court was made up of Jayla Ware and Makenna Gerwitz, along with Scott Hamrick and Cayden McBryde.

Freshmen representatives included Lailya Clark, Madi Sanders, Hagen Sharp and Trey Luke.
