Polk County Police arrested a man who tried to flee officers on a motorcycle after dropping off a woman, and then wrecked it and sought to hide in a thicket in the early morning hours on Wednesday, according to reports.

Jeffery Kent Couzzort, 51, of a Cedartown address, and Kendra Lenne Davis, 27, of a Dallas address, were both arrested in the early morning hours on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 after the incident saw Couzzort wreck his motorcycle while trying to flee from police in the Chick-fil-A parking lot in Rockmart, and ultimately fled on foot to hide before a K-9 officer sniffed him out.

Per the report, Couzzort was driving and Davis was a passenger when they were spotted on a 2007 Harley Davidson when they didn’t come to a complete stop at the intersection of Goodyear Avenue and Nathan Dean Parkway, then turned left through the red light heading westbound.

The officer watching the incident play out attempted to make a traffic stop on the pair, but Couzzort stopped the Harley in the turning lane, let Davis hop off, and then fled and ran a second red light.

When he turned onto Chattahoochee Drive, he went into the Chick-fil-A parking lot and first almost wrecked the motorcycle in the parking lot, then drove around the back still attempting to feel and “struck the corner of one of the buildings in the back.” When police got around to the back, they found the Harley laid down on it side and Couzzort was gone.

Chick-fil-A of Rockmart’s Facebook page posted the below video following the incident:

Additional units were dispatched to help from the area including Rockmart Police to help search for Couzzort. During that time, Davis had walked around a half mile down the road and was apprehended by other officers.

While other officers searched, the reporting officer stayed behind and learned that the motorcycle was reported stolen from Calhoun County, Alabama. During this time awaiting additional information about the stolen Harley, the K-9 sniffed out Couzzort “under a thick pile of brush” and took him into custody.

Since he was involved in a wreck, AdventHealth Redmond EMS was asked to check him out before he was cleared to go to the Polk County Jail. Officers also learned prior to being transported he had a warrant for his arrest.

Following his arrest, Couzzort’s bond was set at $9,500 for felony charges of failure to appear, theft by bringing stolen property into state and theft by receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor charges of failure to obey traffic control device regulated by pedestrians, obstructing law enforcement officers, driving without a valid license, failure to report accident with injury/death/damage, tire requirements and reckless driving.
