
A Rockmart man who ran into a gas pump found himself in trouble for fleeing the scene and leaving behind the damage following the late July incident.
Rashim Antonio Mantilla, 38, of a Rockmart-area address, was booked into the Polk County Jail on a trio charges after warrants were taken out for his arrest for a July 29 incident where he backed into a gas pump at Coot’s Store on Coot’s Lake Road.
According to the report, the clerk complained to officers that Mantilla had backed into the pump with his Dodge Durango, and caused the pump to start leaking.
A passenger moved the Durango away from the pump after it was damaged, and when Mantilla learned that police were being called, he fled the scene.
The cost to repair or replace the pump could be from $500 to $1,200, per the report.
Officers reached out to Mantilla after the incident and learned his license was suspended, and PCPD took out warrants for felony criminal damage to property – 2nd degree and misdemeanor hit and run and driving while license suspended.
Remained in jail on a $5,000 bond as of this posting after being booked into custody on Sunday.
