Mosaic Place has through September been celebrating National Recovery Month, and part of the celebration was this past Saturday’s second annual Flipping Flapjacks for Recovery event that included local police chiefs who also got something their officers can use with those struggling with drug abuse in the community.
Chief Randy Turner of the Rockmart Police, Chief Jamie Newsome with the Cedartown Police and Redmond EMS Director and Rockmart City Council Member Marty Robinson were among those helping out this past Saturday morning with Flipping Flapjacks for Recovery, offering breakfast during one of several events throughout the month of September celebrating recovery.
Mosaic Place Outreach Coordinator Lydia Goodson added that the organization also provided the departments and EMS with cards containing information for the organization and about recovery for individuals they encounter while out and about in Polk County protecting the community who might need Mosaic Place’s services.
“This to me is equipping them with life saving information to have on hand when needed,” Goodson said.
It’s not the only event that’s taking place this month.

On Tuesday evening, Mosaic Place is hosting a Recovery Rally in Seaborn Jones Park in Rockmart from 7 to 9 p.m. that the public is invited to attend and celebrate with those who are in and supporting recovery for addiction.
Building on the Georgia Recovers theme launched this summer by the Georgia Council on Substance Abuse, the rally will celebrate recovery, reach out to the community and honor the lives of those we’ve lost.
Representatives from the Georgia Council will be present, as well as staff from Mosaic Place and Highland Rivers Health, community leaders, first responders, faith leaders and local business owners. Attendees will be able to hear first-hand stories from individuals in Polk County who are living in recovery and how everyone has a role to play in supporting recovery in their community.
Mosaic Place will also be presenting an inaugural award for Polk Recovery Ally of the Year.
The organization is also hosting Bingo Night this Friday at their West Avenue location in Cedartown from 8 to 9 p.m., and on Tuesday, Sept. 29 are hosting the Art in Recovery event from 8 to 9 p.m.
