Local and state officials this morning are involved in the investigation of the death of a 68-year-old woman on Thursday.

Polk County Coroner Norman Smith reported this morning that the woman was found in her yard at a residence in the 4000 block of Prior Station Road on Thursday afternoon.

Several agencies were out late into the night at the scene collecting evidence to determine what might have happened.

Smith said no name is being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Her body is being taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy.
