County Commission approved two requests for property during Tuesday night meeting
Expect another Dollar General to open in Polk County in the coming months after approval was given to rezone a small parcel of land for commercial use during the Tuesday evening County Commission meeting.
Commissioners approved the request to allow for a piece of property at Highway 278 at Lindsey Chapel Road, almost directly across the street from Peach State Ford.
The property – around two acres – also got. 4-1 approval for a variance to allow for less parking spaces than a normal building of it’s size. The parking area should be 53 spaces based on the square footage of the proposed building, but is being allowed to provide 41 in all.
The zoning changes are the first step in new construction of the store, which will increase the total number of Dollar General locations to 7 in Polk County. Those include a Dollar General Market on North Main Street, and regular storefronts on South College Street and Highway 27 across from Petro’s.
The eastern side of the county includes a location in Rockmart on South Piedmont Avenue, one on Highway 278 at McCowan Road, and one in Aragon at Hwy. 101 and New Prospect Road.
The 10,000+ square foot retail location is expected to be started this fall. It is expected to be a brick and will sit on just under 2 acres of land.
