Progress is moving swiftly on construction – even with wet weather getting in the way – on enclosing the new Lankford Corner at the Silver Comet Trail, the events center long in the making on South Main Street.
Contractors have some of the new building enclosed already with plywood walls, but the rest of the facility still has to ways to go before it’ll be fully weather-proof and take its final form in its spot at the corner of South Main Street and West Ware Street.
The new events center – previously the Lankford Events Center rebranded as Lankford Corner on the Silver Comet Trail – will soon be able to host upward of 300+ people at a time in a modern facility with amenities to handle any kind of gathering.
Included among the features of the building will be a commercial-style kitchen, an open floor plan and roll-up doors to combine both indoor and outdoor space around Lankford Corner to function together for larger groups using the facility for an event.

As construction continues, much of the work turns toward building up the rest of the exterior so a roof can be installed and enclose the interior space from the weather, allowing a new set of contractors to come in and get to work on finishing out the space for people to use.
Landscaping and parking will still have to be completed as well, but not until a majority of the heavy equipment and materials are used on site toward the South College Street side of the property and clears the way for future work.

Lankford Corner on the Silver Comet Trail is still not expected to be fully ready for residents to enjoy until Spring 2025, but the timeline for construction could be pushed back based on weather conditions in the coming weeks during winter, when freezes might hinder some exterior work to be completed or rain interrupt construction.
