Multiple arrests were made over the Easter holiday weekend on charges for driving under the influence – nine in total when combining the efforts of three agencies around the county.
Among those was a wreck that took place at Peek Park on Saturday that took out a late model Toyota Corolla and damaged a stone pillar near the Jule Peek Drive exit. That happened when police allege that James Robert Cass, 42, of a Cedartown address, struck it when trying to leave the park while intoxicated on Saturday afternoon.

A witness to the incident reported to Polk Today that Cass was belligerent when he got out of the car to others at the scene, but Cedartown Police and Cedartown Fire both showed up to the scene and were able to take over the situation. He was taken into custody around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. (EDIT: We did get confirmation that is how the arrest went down over the weekend. -KtE)
Cass was later released from jail over the weekend on a $3,900 bond for driving under the influence – concentration is .08g or more within 3 hours or more, hit and run – duty of driver to stop at or return to scene of accident and failure to notify owner upon striking a fixed object.
He wasn’t the only DUI arrest over the weekend. Eight others including Breonna Akyia Brady, 21; Peyron Edward Jannotte, 25; Jeannie Jones Landers, 68; Emily Lopez, 29; Adam Oliver, 21; Eduardo Zavala Reyes, 22; Gregory Edward Robinson, 56 and James Welchel, 36, all faced some form of DUI charges from Cedartown, Rockmart or Polk County Police arrests over the weekend as well.
Additional information was already available from Polk County Police on the arrest of Jannotte and Robinson.
Jannotte, of an Aragon address, was pulled over at 12:45 a.m. on Easter Sunday, April 9, with a five-year-old child in the backseat. Polk County Police stopped him when they watched as he took an abrupt turn onto Prospect Road from Highway 101.
He told police that he was driving with bad rotors on his brakes and was attempting to not use them in the turn. Police noticed his bloodshot eyes and asked how much he drank prior to driving, but told officers he hadn’t drank anything. The child in the backseat was not in a proper seat for their age as well.
Police asked him to undergo a field sobriety test, which he was unable to pass. When officers pressed him on whether he had drank again and requested to do a blood test, Jannotte admitted to having smoked weed earlier in the day. He was then taken into custody and booked into the Polk County Jail without further incident.
He was booked and remained in the jail without bond set on misdemeanor charges of DUI – Less Safe – Drugs, driving on wrong side of roadway, seatbelt – child, and DUI – child endangerment.
Robinson was also arrested by the Polk County Police on a DUI over the weekend. His charges stemmed from a traffic stop at the intersection of Highway 278 and Yorkville Highway just after 9 p.m. on Saturday, April 8. He was pulled over for failure to maintain lane “several times” in front of the officer following him.
Police immediately smelled the strong odor of alcohol coming off of Robinson’s truck. When asked how much he had to drink, Robinson told officers he had just the single beer. He told police he had been on his phone and that was his reason for swerving.
He failed his field sobriety tests and was taken into custody without further incident. Per the report, he was taken to jail and officers had to get a search warrant to draw his blood to determine his blood alcohol level.
Robinson, of Douglasville, was later released on a $2,532 bond on misdemeanor charges of DUI – driving under the influence of alcohol – concentration is .08G or more within 3 hours or more, failure to maintain lane, driver to exercise due care, and no license on person.
