Officers injured during Saturday chase, suspect remains at large

Polk County Police and other local agencies got involved in a chase that began in Rockmart and ended suddenly when two Polk County Police cars were involved in a wreck on Highway 101 trying to get the suspect in Floyd County.

A release from PCPD at midday noted that Officers John Chandler and Tre McDonald were both injured and taken to the hospital following the incident that started around 8:53 p.m. on Saturday night, April 12.

Chandler, who suffered several serious injuries in the incident, underwent hip surgery overnight and will require a second surgery today to repair damage caused to his hand in the wreck.

McDonald was released from the hospital after sustaining a severe concussion and scrapes and bruises from the wreck, and he will be on the mend according to PCPD.

The chase began in Rockmart on West Church Street as A.J. Ware sought to avoid stopping for officers, and then went through the eastern side of Polk County up Highway 101 until wreck occurred and Ware was able to get away.

PCPD and other local agencies were involved including the Floyd County Police, Rockmart Police and later the Cedartown Police who brought out their K-9 officer in hopes of tracking Ware’s whereabouts following the wreck.
