There are several fun Fall events to catch up with this coming month at the Polk County Historical Society!
On Monday, October 3, author Ann Hite’s latest novel Haints on Black Mountain is newly released, and the Historical Society hosted an event aptly named ‘Old Fashioned Southern Ghost Stories’ with the author herself, and just in time for the Halloween season. Haints on Black Mountain is available for purchase in the museum store.
Later in the month on Saturday, October 15, join the PCHS Book Club at 4 PM for a discussion on Edna Ferber’s 1926 novel Show Boat, which chronicles the lives of three generations of theatre performers aboard a boat traveling down the Mississippi River. The book was later adapted into a Broadway musical, as well as three different film adaptations. Copies of the book are available to check out from the Lending Library at the PCHS Museum.
The 2022 Euharlee Covered Bridge Fall Festival begins on Saturday, October 8, and the PCHS welcomes all to a visit at the Euharlee Museum as the PCHS Museum will be closed due to some scheduled work on the surrounding power lines. Historical Society members are welcome to join as there is no admission fee. If you do attend, be sure to stop by the Covered Bridge Festival in Euharlee for an afternoon of food, fun, and entertainment.
Be sure to visit the PCHS Sports Exhibit happening throughout the month of October to check out some historic sports memorabilia, both new and old to the museum, along with a digital display.
PCHS will also hold their Member Meeting on Tuesday, October 25 at 6 PM. The guest speaker will be Charles Pino, discussing “1996 Olympic Collectibles & Ties to Polk County”.
