The Polk County Police arrested two people involved in an aggravated assault incident in recent days, according to a release from the department’s Criminal Investigation Division today.
Police placed Mikayla Sinnett, 23, under arrest during a traffic stop prior to executing a search warrant at 708 Cleo Street in cooperation with the Polk County Drug Task Force following an investigation into an earlier assault.
The release stated the arrests today also took 24-year-old Nickeles Laas into custody after he was spotted in the area and gave chase to officers who “apprehended him quickly” during the Sept. 25 arrests.
Both arrests stemmed from an incident on Irwin Street that involved a woman being struck in the face with a firearm.
“The search warrant was subsequently executed without incident,” the release stated.
Laas was charged with two counts of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, removal or alteration of identification on a firearm and obstruction of law enforcement officers.
Sinnett was only charged with misdemeanor battery.
“The Polk County Police Department would also like to thank the Cedartown Police Department and the Rockmart Police Department for their assistance in this investigation,” the release added.
