PCPD: Driver doing 100+ MPH on Hwy. 278 booked on trio of charges

Franklin Phillip Millin

Polk County Police arrested a Rome man after he was caught speeding over 100 miles per hour on Highway 278 heading into Rockmart, per reports.

Officers arrested Franklin Phillip Millin, 21, of a Rome address, early Sunday morning, June 2, in the parking lot of Arby’s in Rockmart after Millin and several passengers were finally stopped.

A PCPD officer running radar caught Millin going 102 mph in a Dodge Challenger on Highway 278 heading westward toward Rockmart, but couldn’t catch up in time to make the stop so sent a radio call ahead for help.

Millin asked police to run a check of the radar, and the report stated the test came back in the clear, so his speed was accurate per PCPD’s report. He also had no license on his person when he was driving at the time.

Per the report, police did smell marijuana coming from inside the car and conducted a search, but found nothing. Millin claimed he and the passengers had left a pool party and smoked some weed before they left.

PCPD took Millin into custody without further incident on the charges of reckless driving, driving in excess of maximum limits and driving without a license.

He was later released on a $2,130 bond.
