A man was taken into custody by Polk County Police and Cedartown Police at gunpoint as they served an arrest warrant for aggravated assault on Sunday following an accusation – and later video proof – that he held a victim at gunpoint and threatened to shoot them in the eye during a September domestic violence incident.
Benjamin Allen Knight, 39, of a Cedartown-area address, was taken into custody by officials after they got a warrant on Sunday following the midday report of the threats that were made back in September, but were finally being reported to police.
A PCPD officer contacted the victim around noon on Sunday, November 3 after 911 received a call about the prior incident. Per the victim’s statement and video evidence they provided, Knight held a gun to the victim’s head against their eye and threatened to kill them in a Sept. 12 incident.
It was “one of many incidents” the victim told police had occurred within the past year when they didn’t “cooperate in a way that satisfied him.” The victim also provided a voice recording of an incident that took place on Sept. 4.
Due to the nature of the threats and the fact that Knight was likely armed, officers determined a plan to take him into custody and put it into place on Sunday evening.
Police made phone contact with Knight after surrounding his residence at gunpoint on Sunday afternoon, and ordered him out of the residence. He complied and was taken into custody without further incident.
Knight remained in custody at the Polk County Jail without bond set as of this posting on the single felony charge of aggravated assault.
