Polk County Police warned a man if he didn’t return a car key to a woman who was moving out of his residence he was going to face charges, and sure enough he was booked into custody for theft and obstruction on Thursday.
Nathaniel Allen Clackum, 33, of a Cedartown-area address, was booked into custody by Polk County Police on Thursday afternoon, January 2, following an incident on New Year’s Day.
Officers were called out to an Akes Station Road residence where Clackum was accused of taking a car key and removing a car battery from the vehicle of his ex, who was trying to pack her belongings and leave. Clackum fled from the residence before police arrived, leaving the ex without any help or a way to leave.
Police tracked down Clackum to The Farmer’s Store on his four wheeler after the incident occurred and while he admitted to removing the battery and leaving it on a deep freezer in the yard of the residence, he denied having the key. Later he admitted that he locked the key in his bedroom, but only after his ex had already left the residence.
Officers ordered Clackum to give it back or face charges, and by shift’s end on New Year’s Day he hadn’t returned the key to his ex, per the report.
Clackum was booked into custody without any immediate incident reported at this time.
He faces a felony charge of false imprisonment, and misdemeanor charges of obstruction of law enforcement officers and theft by taking. His bond was set at $9,000, and he remained in custody as of the time of writing this post.
