
A man riding his motorcycle on Highway 278 toward Rockmart late on Saturday night was tracked down by the officer he nearly struck conducting another traffic stop and found to be driving under the influence, according to reports.
Polk County Police charged Robin Lamar Cheatwood, 58, of a Rockmart-area address on Saturday, November 9 just before midnight on Sunday after he was stopped by officers at Highway 278 East at the intersection with Cedartown Highway.
Cheatwood is accused by the officer of failing to move over nearly struck the officer while they had another individual pulled over. They let that person go and began searching the area for the motorcycle, catching up with Cheatwood who then swerved a few times before police pulled him over.
Rockmart Police were called into run Cheatwood through field sobriety tests who admitted having “3 or 4 beers.” He was found to be under the influence and taken to jail without further incident.
He was charged with DUI, failure to maintain lane and violating the move over law, all misdemeanors. He was released on a $3,262 bond on Sunday.
