A man and woman were both charged recently for financial transaction card fraud for using a stolen debit card and pulling money out of the account at Cedartown ATMs, according to Polk County Police reports.
Officers previously arrested Danny Ray Godfrey, 51, of a Cedartown-area address on January 29, and booked Katherine Lynn Bentley, 30, of a Cedartown address on Tuesday after both were found to have taken a debit card that belonged to a Dollar General employee who believed they dropped the card in the parking lot in late January.
Per the report, the card was used by the owner to pay a bill while they were on a break in their car and then later found that two different ATM transactions happened hours later. She believed she dropped the card in the parking lot when returning to work, and it was picked up by a woman who stopped into the Dollar General.
Police reported that Godfrey was caught on camera pulling money out of an ATM at a convenience store in Cedartown – totaling just over $100. Another transaction was reported at Colony Bank as well.
PCPD took out warrants for Godfrey and Bentley.
Godfrey was charged with felony financial transaction card fraud for using it at the ATM, and was later released after his January 29 booking on a $3,000 bond.
Bentley remained in custody as of this posting and was also charged with a felony for financial transaction card fraud. A bond was set at $3,000 for her release.
