A woman who previously escaped from the back of a patrol vehicle after her arrest with the Polk County Police tried it again, but this time was delivered safely to the Polk County Jail during a late Tuesday incident.
Kimberly Louise Norton, 43, tried to jump out of the moving Polk County Police patrol vehicle after she was injured when she attempted to flee from the moving vehicle on Highway 27 South in June 2023.
This time, the officer taking her to jail was able to slow down and bring her back under control before she was able to jump and injure herself at taser point.
Norton was initially arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, methamphetamine possession and possession and use of drug-related objects following a domestic altercation, where she fled into the woods from officers before they arrived on scene.
Cedartown Police got to the altercation first, tracked Norton down in the woods, and ended up placing her in cuffs and taking her straight to a patrol vehicle.
During her ride to jail, Norton was able to get out of her handcuffs a second time after she was first held at taser point and placed back into cuffs and “assisted Norton into the rear seat.”
She was ultimately delivered to jail staff without further incident.
Norton was charged with possession of a Schedule I Controlled Substance, possession and use of drug related objects, obstruction of law enforcement officers, escape and disorderly conduct. She was denied bond on the felony and misdemeanor charges.
