A woman who wanted her handgun back from a vehicle struck the victim twice in an altercation to get it out of their possession during a domestic dispute over the weekend, according to Polk County Police reports.
Officers arrested Sarah Ann Carruthers after she admitted striking the victim twice and was charged with misdemeanor simple battery for the incident.
Carruthers, 30, began the argument early on Saturday morning before police arrived with the victim, who ultimately fled outside and locked themselves into a vehicle when it became too heated.
When Carruthers came out and sought the firearm from the victim inside the vehicle so she could leave, they refused to turn it over due to Carruther’s behavior during the incident.
She was able to open the door and the incident got physical after, and then she went back into the Old Vinson Mountain Road residence where the incident occurred to call 911.
When interviewed by officers, Carruthers admitted to hitting the victim in the face, and her story matched up with the victim’s account of the incident as well.
Carruthers was taken to jail without any further incident. Police also took the gun into evidence for safekeeping until such time as Carruthers was set to be released.
She remained in custody at the Polk County Jail as of this posting on the single charge awaiting bond to be set.
