A woman who previously jumped out of a Polk County Police car was part way through being booked into jail on multiple charges, but staff grew concerned that she wasn’t well enough to be in the facility and she was sent back to the hospital.
Kimberly Louise Norton, 41, of a Cedartown-area address, was brought to the jail on Thursday morning, June 29, to be booked on multiple felony charges.
Norton was seriously injured after she was able to jump out of the back of a patrol vehicle while being taken to the Polk County Jail in mid-June following an incident where she was able to flee from officers after being put in the back of a car, then was arrested again after she returned back to the scene of the original police encounter.
Norton at the time was transported to Atrium Health Floyd Medical Center in Rome, and after weeks in the hospital was released following treatment late last week.
Major Rachel Haddix confirmed that Norton was brought to the jail after she was reported to have been medically cleared from the hospital on June 29. Once at the jail and during her booking, concerns were raised about her condition and medical personnel at the jail looked her over and ordered her back to the hospital in an ambulance.
Norton was partially through her booking when she was released from custody to be taken back to the hospital.
Her charges include felonies for escape and two counts of interference with government property, and misdemeanor charges for simple assault under the family violence act, theft by taking, obstructing law enforcement officers and an additional escape charge.
