Sherry Kay

A Cartersville woman who was traveling through Rockmart was stopped by police for a traffic violation, and ultimately booked on felony and misdemeanor charges for drugs per a report from this past Friday.

Sherry Francis Kay, 51, of 46 Dogwood Drive, Cartersville, was taken into custody after she was pulled over for an improper lane change after leaving Zaxby’s in Rockmart not far past the intersection with Highway 101 and Nathan Dean Parkway on February 19.

Kay told police when she was initially questioned that she had no driver’s license on her, and when they requested information about her driving status she came back with a suspended license.

She was taken into custody and searched and was found with a glass pipe suspected to have methamphetamine inside. Police then conducted a search of her 2003 Nissan Altima and found four bags with either suspected methamphetamine or the residue from used bags.

Additional pills were found in her purse when she was being booked at the jail, reported by police to be Alprazolam and Gabapentin. Both of those drugs can be abused as they work for pain management or as a sedative.

Kay was booked into the jail and released after two days on a bond of $11,150.

She will face charges of felony dangerous drugs and possession of a schedule II controlled substances. Additional misdemeanor charges include drugs not in original container, possession and use of drug related objects and traffic charges of no license on person, driving while license suspended or revoked, tag lights required and for an improper lane change.
