The driver of an Infiniti passenger vehicle that fled officers in a chase that started in Cedartown and ended with a crash in Hiram is still on the run, and police are hoping to find out more about him and why he and two other men were looking for a Spruce Street woman on Sunday evening.
Cedartown Police Chief Jamie Newsome said his officers are hoping the public can help identify the driver who fled from the crash that ended a chase and left his companion passengers behind in Hiram after they fled the traffic stop around 7 p.m. in Cedartown.
Before that, Newsome said the men had gone to a Spruce Street home looking for a woman twice during the 6 p.m. hour before they were reported to 911 and a lookout was put onto the car. Though they didn’t brandish their weapons, Newsome said the residents noted they were armed.
Once police found the Infiniti, they attempted to make the stop but instead a chase ensued that began in Cedartown, continued through Rockmart and across the Paulding County line when Georgia State Patrol took charge.
They continued following the speeding vehicle through Dallas and into Hiram, when a crash ended the pursuit.
Newsome said the driver fled on foot from the scene and still hasn’t been located by police. Any additional details the public can provide about his name and whereabouts is being sought immediately. Those who have this information are asked to contact 911 in their area immediately, or the Cedartown Police Department at 770-748-4123.
The two passengers were left behind. One was injured and taken to the hospital in the Paulding area. The seriousness of those injuries are not yet known.
Newsome said the second passenger was apprehended on the scene and brought back to the Cedartown Police Department for questioning, and was subsequently released without being charged.
The chief said the entire incident remains under investigation at this time. They want to know whether the chase was connected to the reason why the trio were seeking the woman on Spruce Street, or if these were unconnected incidents that happened concurrently.
