POLICE: Hiram Man switched lanes in front of traffic stop jailed on DUI charge

Lemont Twoone Nash

A Hiram man was jailed and later released on a $3,100 bond after he switched lanes at an inopportune time, and ended up being charged with a DUI, per PCPD reports.

Polk County Police arrested Lemont Twoone Nash, 27, of a Hiram address, after he drove past the traffic stop already in progress in the Taylorsville area on Wednesday morning.

Reports stated that the traffic stop was over when Nash went by without switching lanes for the other driver to get back on the road, and he was pulled over on Highway 113 near Davis Town Road.

The officer who stopped Nash reported immediately smelling marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Nash claimed he had smoked any before driving, and he told police he had “two hits out of a small blunt 30 to 40 minutes prior to being pulled over.”

Nash additionally claimed there may be a few leftover “roaches” in the vehicle, but otherwise he didn’t know of anything else he might have in his possession. Police ran him through field sobriety tests and passed the first round, but not more specific tests for drivers who might be impaired due to drug use.

He was taken into custody and onward to Atrium Health Floyd Polk Medical Center for a blood test, then to the Polk County Jail for booking.

Nash was charged with misdemeanors for driving under the influence, a seatbelt violation and failure to yield for authorized emergency vehicle.
