Police: Man ambushed older relative during Friday morning domestic incident

Joel Curtis Edge

A Cedartown man remained in jail with bond denied after he was reported to have ambushed an older relative during a Friday morning incident on Girard Avenue, per Cedartown Police reports.

Joel Curtis Edge, 44, listed of a Girard Avenue address, Cedartown, was taken into custody at his residence on July 29 after police spotted him driving away from the incident, and witnesses reported seeing what happened.

Reports alleged that Edge was waiting outside for a older relative to come outside and leave for work, when Edge was then reported to have attacked the victim, hitting them from behind. The report noted as well that Edge is alleged to have then hit the victim several more times while on the ground, leaving them with a cut above their face, blackened eyes and bruising on the face.

After the attack, Edge fled the scene and police arrived just in time to see him leave. They were able to track him down to a Cooper Street apartment owned by the housing authority, where he was staying with a friend.

Police did get help from the Housing Authority in finding out he was there for sure, and then after obtaining a warrant got permission to enter the residence to place him under arrest.

Edge ultimately surrendered when officers opened the door.

Police reports on the incident included multiple narratives, including one officer who took Edge to the Polk County Jail. While on the way, police stated that “the male advised that he would he we would have done the same thing.”

Edge remains in jail without bond set on felony charges of aggravated battery and two counts of cruelty to children in the second degree, along with misdemeanor charges of obstructing law enforcement officers, stalking, battery, and three counts of cruelty to children in the third degree.
