POLICE: Man charged with domestic assault jailed week after incident

Mark Williams

Polk County Police ultimately caught up with a man accused of a serious domestic assault last week, according to reports.

Officers took Mark Williams, 42, of a Cedartown-area address into custody on Sunday, April 28, after he fled from the scene on a purple motorcycle following the domestic assault on Monday, April 22. Despite the color of his means of escape, police were unable to locate him in the Highway 100 area where he was last seen by the victim.

The victim told police that Williams had gotten upset over past issues and that began an assault in the bedroom after the victim was suddenly woken up by Williams. The report indicated that Williams attempted to strangle the victim, drug them in front of an air conditioner and told them to “breathe,” and proceeded to assault them further after dragging the victim by the hair into the living room.

The victim was able to flee outside and call for help as Williams banged on a passenger side window in the vehicle where they hid. Williams ultimately took off before law enforcement arrived on the motorcycle.

Per the report, the victim initially didn’t want to go to the hospital, but later followed police to Atrium Health Polk Medical Center for treatment and to document the injuries sustained.

Polk County Police took out warrants for Williams arrest following the hospital exam.

No immediate reports on where Williams was found or the nature of his booking were immediately available.

He remains in custody as of this posting on a felony aggravated assault charge and misdemeanors for battery and simple assault under the family violence act.

No immediate information was available about his bond as of this posting.
