POLICE: Man left check and ID at bank when fleeing officers

Jermaine Martin

A Kennesaw man was jailed after being pulled over by a Rockmart Police Detective who was seeking him out for a forgery charge when he tried to cash a check at Colony Bank and was instead sought out by officers.

Rockmart Police Detective David Gowens pulled over Jermaine Martin, 26, of 4115 Northbrook Bend NW, Kennesaw, on Monday morning when he was pulled over in a traffic stop by Gowens after fleeing a second time from the Colony Bank branch on Elm Street.

Martin initially ran from police when he first tried to pass off a “stolen and altered check” for $1,639 in the drive thru at Colony Bank on Wednesday, September 21.

Gowens said he saw officers approaching and fled the scene, leaving behind the check and his identification at the time.

When he tried to come back for it on Monday, September 26, he fled from the bank a second time when officers again arrived to arrest him for trying to pass off the stolen check.

Gowens reported that he was on the way to the bank when he came upon Martin’s vehicle at the intersection of East Elm Street and Piedmont Avenue.

“I stopped the vehicle and an arrest was made without incident,” Gowens reported.

Martin remains in the Polk County Jail as of this posting without any bond set on the felony charge of third degree forgery.
